The Medicine of Awareness:
Mindfulness and the Healing Path of Practice
a non-residential retreat with Margo McLoughlin
Friday, October 25, 7 - 9 p.m. and
Saturday, October 26, 9:30 - 4:30 p.m.
at the Mayne Island Community Centre.
Through our practice of meditation, we discover the healing properties of mindful awareness. This kind of awareness is much more than paying attention: it is a training of the heart and mind that develops both wisdom and compassion, benefiting ourselves and benefiting the world.
Gradually, as we deepen our practice, we begin to see the tremendous power and potential of awareness. By bringing wholehearted presence to the circumstances of our lives, we disentangle unskillful habit patterns of mind. We learn how to nurture the wholesome qualities and reflect the light that is in each one of us.
The Buddha is often referred to as the Great Physician, whose foundational teachings of the Four Noble Truths diagnose the human ailment, identify the cause, offer a cure, and prescribe the treatment.
In the Friday evening talk, and over the course of day on Saturday, Margo will use the framework of the Five Spiritual Faculties - faith, energy, mindfulness, concentration, and wisdom - to investigate the ways we can strengthen and apply the medicine of awareness in our lives.
