Join us this fall for a half-day meditation retreat at Unfolding Body in Cumberland.
Sign up for one half-day or come to them all. Each retreat will be an opportunity to learn about the beautiful qualities of mind known as the Four Divine Abidings of friendliness, compassion, joy and equanimity.
The time and dates are:
Sundays, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
October 12 - Introduction to the Divine Abidings (metta, karuna, mudita, upekkha)
October 19 - Unconditional Friendliness (metta) and the Practice of Compassion
November 9 - Unconditional Friendliness (metta) and the Practice of Sympathetic Joy
November 23 - Unconditional Friendliness (metta) and the Practice of Equanimity
A half-day of practice in the company of others offers an opportunity to deepen our practice in significant ways. Continuity of mindfulness allows the busy mind to settle. Within the structure of the retreat, we give ourselves permission to set aside our plans and projects, our worries and concerns. Inspired by the presence of others, we commit to staying with the morning of practice. Gradually, the repeated engagement with the theme of metta or unconditional friendliness, leads to an increasing sense of the mind’s potential to become collected. The experience of this collected mind (samadhi) is deeply nourishing. Refreshed and renewed, we return to our daily lives with greater clarity and ease.
